Nature School Dunedin (NSD) is an independent charitable organisation with its own Board of Trustees. We are offering our programme through Anderson’s Bay School as a One Day school. This means your child will stay enrolled in their foundation school (Anderson’s Bay), but can be released for the day to attend NSD (section 25B New Zealand Education Act). The programme is offered to children in Year 4,5,6 each school term. Our start date for 2020 will be the first week of Term 3, Thursday 23rd July. The cost is $65 inc.GST per child per day. A full-term commitment is required. We do not offer casual attendance. Please see our full terms and conditions for full information.
To ensure your child has enough time to enjoy following up on their projects and being immersed in the philosophy of NSD a full term commitment is required. Please see our Terms and Conditions.
The Term dates for 2020 are as follows:
Term 3 is every Thursday from 23rd July to Thursday 24th September - 10 weeks.
Term 4 is every Thursday from 15th October to 10th December- 9 weeks.
Anderson’s Bay Primary is our foundation school and is the designated pick up and drop off point for our transport shuttle service. All parents need to do, is to rendezvous with their child at this drop off point at 8.30 am and then back for collection at 3.00 pm. Parents will be able to visit the site on specified open days prior to enrolling their child.
We understand that sometimes your child may not be able to attend NSD. We may also deem it unsafe for a session to go ahead, for example because of extreme weather. We have a cancellation policy in place to guide you through eventualities that may occur.
When children are enrolled, they become part of an exciting one-day school with nature as their classroom. On arrival, children gather to orientate and connect with the environment and then move through a programme of exploration, discovery, engagement and reflection. Through each of these learning opportunities, children are immersed in activities building confidence, independence and self-discovery.
To make it easy to access the Nature School Dunedin site, we operate a passenger shuttle to transport your child safely to and from Doctors Point each day. Using a transport passenger shuttle is a requirement of our Resource Consent and enables the children to all arrive on-site at the same time ready for their days learning.
Children get the most out of experiences when they feel safe, secure and certain that their needs are being met. The well-being and safety of all NSD learners guides all our practises and activity based learning.
